Fuel Cells: A Second Look? 21 May 2008 |
Fuel cells have been around for 150 years however, they seem as far as ever from realizing their extraordinary promise as the energy conversion device of choice in almost everything from mobile phones to cars and buses. However, that may be about to change in some application areas. New Energy Finance believes the best fuel cell technologies are those that fit into niche applications such as recreation vehicles, telecoms back-up and in some cases, mid-sized distributed generation (250kW - 5MW). These areas will achieve total combined revenue of $1.5bn in 2015.
This report explores the market potential of fuel cells in three key areas: recreational vehicles, telecoms backup power and mid-sized distributed generation. Then it reviews the investment trends and history of the fuel cell industry in all asset classes, including investor exits. Finally, this report examines the key players and developments in all fuel cell application areas.

Interesting Times 2.0: Second Focus Report on Clean Energy Investment Opportunities in China 31 Jan 2008 |
Energy security is at the heart of China’s continued political, economic and social development. China is the world’s second-largest energy consumer and its third largest oil importer, and there are no signs of its appetite for energy diminishing. Between 2000 and 2006, China’s energy consumption rose 77.3% and with GDP hitting double digit growth since 2003, China’s energy demand is expected to increase from 970Mtoe in 2000 to 2,800Mtoe by 2020. 123 pages, January 2008
This update to our first major report on clean energy investment opportunities in China (published in September 2006) is structured as follows:
• First, it provides an overview of China’s energy infrastructure and economic backdrop.
• Next it looks at each of the major clean energy sectors, assessing trends, key developments and outlook.
• And, finally, it reviews financial activity in clean energy – from early-stage investment through to public market activity, analysing activity in recent years and describing how we expect each area to develop.
• In addition, the appendixes provide background material on the political and capital market environment that overseas investors in China will have to negotiate.
