EU ETS market behaviour: Phase 2

The European Carbon Model

A key tool to enable us provide these insights is our European Carbon Model. The European Carbon Model has been built up over six years to specifically forecast European carbon prices using a fundamentals-driven approach. The model incorporates a sophisticated power sector module together with highly granular modules for all industrial sectors that are likely to be covered by the EU ETS as well as the import of CDM/JI credits and potential linkages with other schemes. The model has also been designed to be highly flexible to enable multiple scenario analysis, stress testing and Monte Carlo simulations. It has also been built to be as user friendly as possible with a clear user interface and minimal run times. The model is widely used across a range of power, oil and gas, industry, government and trading houses.

A European Team with a Global Reach

A key feature of our team structure is the integration with our other analysis teams covering the carbon markets under the Kyoto Protocol and in North America and Australia, as well as all renewable energy, energy efficiency, CCS and nuclear sectors. This integration is crucial as the world’s carbon markets become more joined up - a development in one market can have important implications for the rest of the connected markets - and expand to include more sectors and technologies.
